LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) is the charitable organisation behind the promotion of sustainable agriculture, food and farming. LEAF manages Open Farm Sunday, which is soon to be in it's eleventh year!

If you haven't heard of Open Farm Sunday, then you have been missing out! Open Farm Sunday is a one day, annual event which sees local farmers opening their gates to the public. Each year a different farm takes part and offers an insight into the farming world.

The great thing about this event is that every year differs, with different farms hosting the event and a variety of  sights to see. Some farms are purely arable and will involve farm walks, tractor rides and talks from agronomists, whereas some farms will also involve livestock.

Open Farm Sunday offers a fantastic opportunity for all ages to learn about agriculture and the local area. There are often activities for the children to get involved with, such as feeding and petting animals and there are talks and displays for the adults.

With more than a quarter of a million people attending Open Farm Sunday last year, it is hoped that the event will be just as successful this year!

My local Open Farm Sunday will be taking place in Goring-Heath near Reading and the plan is to show the public that there is more to farming than just growing crops and livestock!

With a large number of farms taking part in the event across the Country, make sure you don't miss out this Sunday 11th June. If the weather forecast is looking wet, don't panic, just remember to pack your wellies!
